Live Train Running Status — Real-Time Updates for Every Train in India

Train Running Status is India's most up-to-date platform for tracking where your train is right now. Whether you're travelling on a Rajdhani Express, a Vande Bharat, a sleeper-class mail train, or a local passenger service, our live tracker shows you the train's current location, delay status, expected arrival time at every station, coach composition, and platform number — all refreshed automatically every 90 seconds so you always have the latest picture.

Powered by the official TRS API, data is sourced directly from Indian Railways' NTES feed. No outdated cache, no third-party speculation — just real station-level reporting as trains check in at each halt. Simply enter your train number or name in the search box above and get started in seconds.

How to Check Train Running Status

Checking your train's live status takes under 10 seconds:

Step 1 — Enter Train Number or Name

Type your 5-digit train number (e.g. 12301) or the train name (e.g. "Rajdhani") into the search bar. Results appear instantly as you type — select your train from the dropdown.

Step 2 — View Live Location & Delay

The train detail page loads automatically, showing the current position on the route, delay in minutes, last station crossed, distance from origin, and expected arrival at your station. The page refreshes every 90 seconds — no manual refresh needed.

Step 3 — Check Coach Position & Platform

Scroll to the Coach Composition panel to see where your coach is in the rake so you can stand at the right spot on the platform. Platform numbers are shown on the timeline once the train nears the station and the Railways assigns them.

Live Station Boards for Major Indian Railway Stations

Beyond train tracking, every major railway station in India has its own live arrival and departure board on this site. Each station page shows all trains expected in the next 8 hours — categorised as Arriving, Departing, or Passing Through — along with platform numbers, real-time delays, and train type. Popular stations include New Delhi, CSMT Mumbai, Howrah Junction, KSR Bengaluru, and Chennai Central.

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is the live train running status?
Data is sourced directly from the Indian Railways NTES (National Train Enquiry System) via the TRS API. Accuracy depends on how frequently station masters at each halt update the system. For most express trains on mainline routes, updates arrive within 5–15 minutes of the train crossing a reporting station. The page auto-refreshes every 90 seconds so you always see the latest available reading.
How do I find live status using a train name instead of number?
Just type the train name — such as "Rajdhani", "Shatabdi", or "Duronto" — into the search box. As you type, a dropdown list of matching trains appears. Select yours and the live detail page opens. If you know the full name like 12301 Howrah Rajdhani, typing the number is even faster.
Can I check the live status of any train in India?
Yes. The database covers all trains operated by Indian Railways — Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Vande Bharat, Duronto, Garib Rath, Mail, Express, Passenger, DEMU, MEMU, and special trains. As long as the train has an active NTES entry, it will appear in search results.
What does "passing through" mean on the station board?
"Passing Through" (also shown as a yellow badge) means the train does not have a scheduled commercial halt at that station — it passes without stopping, or stops only briefly for a technical reason (loco change, crew change) without accepting passengers. If you need to board or alight, look for trains marked Arriving or Departing instead.
Why is the platform number not showing for my train?
Platform numbers are assigned by the Station Master and are typically updated in the NTES system 30–60 minutes before the train arrives. If a platform number is blank, it simply has not been assigned yet — refresh the page closer to the scheduled arrival time.
How do I read the coach composition panel?
The coach row shows each coach in order from the front (engine/loco) to the rear of the train. Coaches are colour-coded: dark (engine/LPR), blue (AC classes — 1A, 2A, 3A, EC, CC), green (Sleeper — SL, 2S), and grey (General/Unreserved). Find your coach label (e.g. S4, B2, A1) and note its position in the rake to know which end of the platform to stand at.
Is this website an official Indian Railways site?
No. Train Running Status is an independent third-party service that uses the official NTES data feed via the TRS API. For booking tickets, PNR status, or official information, visit the IRCTC or NTES websites directly. This site focuses on providing a cleaner, faster, and mobile-friendly live-tracking experience.
Does the site work on mobile without downloading an app?
Absolutely. The site is fully responsive and progressive — it works on any modern smartphone browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox) without requiring an app installation. For the best experience on Android, you can also install it as a PWA (Progressive Web App) directly from your browser's "Add to Home Screen" option.
